“My character came into the show and I had been on the show for three episodes without it being revealed that the character was gay. So I never played it any which way, gay or straight.  And I think that when it turned out that my character was gay, for me, it was sort of, like I said to Shonda, but I just want to keep playing the character the same way.  I don’t think there should be anything about her that would immediately sort of say like you’re gay or you’re straight.  Because I think that it’s a greater lesson, I think that it’s a greater story to tell which is that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover and that lots of things come in lots of different shapes and sizes.” Jessica Capshaw
